Strictly Come Dancing finalists pose with the Glitterball trophy ahead of finale

Strictly Come Dancing finalists Kelvin Fletcher and Emma Barton pose with the Glitterball trophy… despite claims it had ‘fallen apart’

It was reported that show bosses feared that the award was ‘cursed’ after it fell apart backstage.

But it appears that the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy has been well and truly fixed as finalists Kelvin Fletcher, Karim Zeroual and Emma Barton posed with the coveted prize just hours before the grand finale.

It comes after it was reported by The Daily Star that the trophy had started to lose some of its mirrored piece, mere minutes after the celebrities headed into the studio to rehearse for the final.

Kelvin and his professional partner Oti could barely contain their excitement as they got a closer look at the trophy they could lift in Saturday’s live finale.

The Emmerdale star has stunned viewers with his dance moves after joining the show as a late addition when Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing was forced to pull out with a foot injury.

EastEnders star Emma will also be performing in the final alongside her pro partner Anton Du Beke, who is set to appear in the final for only the second time in his 15 years on the show.

Karim and his partner Amy Dowden suffered a close call last week when they ended up in the dance-off, but the duo won over the judges and advanced to the final.

It comes after it was reported that the Glitterball trophy had begun to fall apart just a day before the final, as the mirrored pieces started to fall off after the celebrities arrived for rehearsals.

A source said: ‘Strictly's known for its curses with romances and now we have a new one.’

A representative for Strictly Come Dancing declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

The Glitterball trophy has previously caused trouble for show bosses in the past after last year’s winner Stacey Dooley lost it just hours after she won.

Among the excitement of winning the show with Kevin Clifton, the TV presenter misplaced the trophy at the show’s afterparty.

This Morning’s Dr Ranj Singh told how Stacey misplaced the trophy at the bash and had to text her fellow Strictly contestants in their WhatsApp group to see if any of them had seen it.

Speaking on The Telegraph’s Talking Strictly podcast, he said: ‘Here’s a little secret… so after the after party, I may have snuck a picture with Stacey’s trophy.

‘Then there was a message on the WhatsApp group yesterday saying, “Has anyone seen my trophy? I left it in the room with all the bags and now I can’t find it”.’

Dr Ranj said he replied to Stacey by saying: ‘And I was like, “I definitely didn't take it home”.’

The doctor was then asked: ‘You didn’t leave it in the cab did you?’ but insisted: ‘No… I was like, “How many drinks did I have?”.’

The remaining three couples will each perform three dances during the show in a bid to impress the judges and win over viewers.
