Lorraine Kelly left in fits of giggles as Dr Hilary Jones suggests SEX can help cure a common cold

She’s usually the picture of professionalism on her ITV daytime show.

However, during Thursday’s installment of Lorraine, host Lorraine Kelly was left in fits of giggles as Dr Hilary Jones suggested that having sex could help cure a common cold.

The humorous moment came during a health segment called ‘fact or fiction’ where the pair were discussing which ‘cures’ actually help with a cold.

After talking through the wonders of chicken soup and dispelling the myth that wet hair gives you colds, talk soon turned to whether having sex could boost ones immune system.

Announcing the next topic, Lorraine, 59, said loudly: 'Having sex can boost your immune system', before quickly adding: 'it wasn't an offer!'

As Dr Hilary, 66, gave her a cheeky grin, he requested that she 'say that once more.'

To which the presenter said even more loudly: 'Having sex can boost your immune system, is this true?'

Giving his expert opinion, Dr Hilary responded: 'Apparently. According to researchers in Pennsylvania, they did a study and they reckon that those people who had sex at least once a week had 30% more Immunoglobulin A, which is a virus-busting anti-body.'

He then, with a smirk, continued: 'I don't know how many people were in the study but I'm sure they got lots of volunteers.'

At this, Lorraine lost her cool and burst into the giggles, before quickly composing herself.

Dr Hilary added: 'There's a little bit of evidence… but then you'd transmit the infection more wouldn't you? Having a lot of sex.

Lorraine responded: 'That's what I'm thinking. If you've got the cold, and then you're going to give it to the person, I would've thought.'

Agreeing with her, the GP said: 'That's what I would've thought, there's pros and cons, mainly pros I should think.

Lorraine’s giggles comes as she rang in her 60th birthday in unique style last month as she jetted to Florida to try her hand at astronaut training.

The TV legend, who marks the milestone birthday on 30 November, revealed she had always been ‘obsessed’ with space after her father bought her a telescope and she watched the moon landing aged 10.

In light of her passion, Lorraine delightedly revealed she flew to the US to try her hand on the ‘ominously named’ Vomit Comet, where she experienced zero gravity and was seen to pour a cup of tea while floating in the air.

Lorraine revealed on her eponymous show last week that she had embarked on the incredible adventure while also penning a piece for The Sun about her travels.

Speaking about how she found her passion for space, she said: ‘It was a childhood dream come true. I watched the moon landings as a 10-year-old and it was absolutely life changing…

Here we are 50 years on and I'm going to get to experience a small part of what people like Neil Armstrong experienced. At the age of 60, I'm going back to school, but this is astronaut school.’
