Jilted MAFS bridesmaid Mel Lucarelli gets into a screaming match with Nova's Matt de Groot

Melissa Lucarelli broke down in tears and screamed at Nova FM newsreader Matt De Groot live on Fitzy & Wippa on Wednesday, during an explosive argument about Jules Robinson’s wedding to Cameron Merchant.

The Married At First Sight star, 39, lost her cool after Matt implied that she deserved to be dumped as a bridesmaid because she wasn’t really close friends with Jules.

The situation was made worse by the fact Matt is close friends with the couple and had attended their wedding on Sunday with his journalist wife Bronte Coy.

He had also served as one of Cam’s groomsmen and featured prominently in coverage of the ceremony on A Current Affair on Tuesday night.

Mel explained that she was shocked after being dumped as a bridesmaid, and was insulted that Jules had publicly stated the reason why was because ‘they hadn’t seen each other’ since MAFS.

‘Literally, I could tell you like 20 times I had seen [Jules] this year, and her other bridesmaids didn’t live in the country… one was interstate,’ she said.

‘You would think that I had done something so wrong to dump someone.’

Matt then took a swipe at the talent agent, claiming that Jules hadn’t known Mel long enough to warrant her being a bridesmaid in the first place.

His co-hosts, Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli and Sarah McGilvray, didn’t agree and pointed out that fellow MAFS star, Heidi Latcham, had still been made a bridesmaid.

Mel and Jules’ feud explained

Jules Robinson got engaged to Cameron Merchant on Married At First Sight, just months after meeting for the first time at the altar.

While announcing the news at the MAFS reunion dinner party, Jules asked co-stars Melissa Lucarelli and Heidi Latcham to be her bridesmaids.

But she had a change of heart and dumped Melissa as a bridesmaid a few weeks before her wedding to Cameron, which took place on Sunday.

Jules claims she dropped Melissa from her bridal party because they had ‘drifted apart’ in the months since filming MAFS.

But Melissa dispute this, saying they were still friends (or at least she thought they were) and the dumping came ‘out of the blue’.

‘I don’t know why I’m getting that kind of reaction from you, Matt,’ Mel said, sounding clearly upset.

Matt then criticised Mel for publicly addressing the ‘bridesmaid dumping’ on Instagram on Sunday, the day of Jules and Cameron’s wedding.

‘Mel, you posted that photo moments after their ceremony for no reason,’ he said.

‘You had said your piece, it had been done, and then for no reason you jumped in and posted a photo of the two of you, threw yourself right back into the middle of it at exactly the moment it should have been about them.’

Melissa then flew into a rage, screaming at Matt: ‘You have not thought about how this has affected me and made me feel!

‘I was asked [to be a bridesmaid] on national television. Everyone knew. I think that is so rude of you, Matt! I can’t even believe I’m having this discussion with you.

‘Am I just meant to not say anything so that everybody assumes that I did something so bad? Everyone was asking, so I addressed it!

‘Do you want access to my Instagram inbox so you can go through all the messages [from fans] and answer them all? You’re very rude!’

Mel then completely broke down in tears as she spoke of the public humiliation of being dumped and misrepresented in the media.

‘I got dumped for no legitimate reason,’ she wept. ‘Why is Heidi still a bridesmaid when [Jules] didn’t see her? How dare you, Matt!’

As the situation escalated and it was clear Matt had gone too far, his colleagues stepped in to defend Mel.

‘Matt, you’ve got to understand that you can’t pose a question [like that] to poor Mel, who’s still trying to get answers on why she was dumped,’ said Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald.

‘Female friendships are so much harder than men’s, I don’t care what anyone says,’ added Sarah.

Matt replied that he was simply ‘surprised’ Mel had chosen to make the feud public, which prompted Wippa to scold him.

‘This whole thing is a public forum, so to be surprised by anything that’s played out publicly is a shock to me. Mel is a friend of the show, find your manners,’ he said.

An emotional Mel concluded by saying she has never been involved in ‘MAFS drama’ before, and that it’s not fair for her to be judged for speaking out.

‘I have never ever spoken out about anything, I’ve never been involved in the drama, I’ve never called anyone out or done this, whereas the others…’ she said, before her line was abruptly cut off.
